About Rapid City Kennel Club
The Rapid City Kennel Club, Inc. (RCKC) provides the people of Western South Dakota with opportunities to meaningfully interact with their dogs by providing dog training classes, workshops and seminars for Canine Good Citizen (CGC), conformation, obedience, responsible dog ownership, rally, agility, Earthdog, and other dog-related events.
To protect and advance all purebred dogs, encourage sportsmanlike competition at AKC sanctioned dog events, and provide educational activities and exhibitions concerning dog ownership, care, training and recreation.
The Rapid City Kennel Club, Inc. does not promote the sale of animals or services, but does encourage you to find a rescue group or reputable breeder with whom to do your business.
The RCKC was formed in 1961, with the first show being held outside of Sioux Park. There were 250 entries that year, which thrilled and motivated us for upcoming events. The following year we moved to the old auditorium where the Dahl Fine Arts Center is now located. Today, our shows are held in the Rushmore Plaza Arena in order to accommodate the growth of participation. In 2009, we had 1,063 dogs entered in our 90th, 91st, 92nd, & 93rd all breed shows. Currently, RCKC is comprised of approximately 80 members.
